Question
What is the one item in your closet you would never trash, donate or give away?
Answer
I don’t know, clothes are just things and I don’t really have an emotional attachment to them, although, I do have a couple of cashmere sweaters that I only wear at my house in Connecticut. They are well past the expiration date but are so soft and broken in and pilled. I lounge around in them on a rainy Sunday and am in heaven. If I did get rid of those I would be sad. They are turquoise and oatmeal. I look terrible in the oatmeal one. It’s the worst color in the world and too big on me and I would only leave the house in it if the house were burning down. And even then I would think twice about it.

Question
So back to spring. Three tips to men/women when it comes to getting ready for spring, wardrobe-wise.
Answer
Look at fashion websites and magazines from time to time and look for a look that works for you. Watch other people. You can’t do that too much. If you see someone wearing a style you like, stop them and ask where they shop or who their tailor is. It’s OK to ask!

Question
You have two shows now, congratulations! How are they different, how are they the same?
Answer
It was definitely the difference in them that attracted me. For nine years on “What Not To Wear” I have given every bit of fashion advice I could possibly give and seen every fashion mistake in the book. I have told everyone how to find the perfect pair of jeans and how to create style. What interests me more now on that program is the emotional aspect. Behind every poorly dressed woman is usually a little girl who does not feel pretty and that bothers me. My mission in life now is to get people past those negative feelings – stop the spiral of negativity. I believe in my heart every woman wants to look beautiful. “What Not To Wear” is what I do for a living but “The Chew” is how I live my life. Damon (Kelly’s spouse) and I entertain and cook often. When I was approached about doing “The Chew” I said “Hell, yes.” That show is exactly how I spend my life. I hang out with four people I really like. They are solid and kind and we have a blast for an hour. For “The Chew” we shoot for one hour in front of an audience and it airs live. “What Not To Wear” is more tedious. We spend hours to get a few minutes filmed.

Question
One of your recipe contributions to “The Chew” was your Warm and Toasty Irish Coffee. Fashion aside, suggestions for spring drinking?
Answer
A spring wine cooler. Four cups of strawberries macerated with sugar. Strain them and combine the syrup with two bottles of nice crisp white wine, like a sauvignon blanc, and top with ginger ale. Throw in frozen strawberries. It’s the best in the world.

Question
What is your favorite Connecticut pastime?
Answer
I don’t like leaving my house. I am a total hermit who loves gardening and entertaining in our beautiful backyard. I do like hiking the Appalachian Trail too. Good mojo.

Question
What is something no one knows about you?
Answer
I feel like the world knows everything about me. But sometimes when I am in Connecticut, I don’t shower for the entire weekend.
