Places to Go... Things to Do
4. American Artistry
The New Britain Museum of American Art’s NEW/NOW exhibit features artist Marc Swanson’s sleek sculptures adorned in crystals. These sparkling totems represent self-identity, development and conflict. Artist Michael Conti’s Slapstick photo/video installation subverts the myths of the sports hero and wilderness man. “Currier & Ives: Impressions of America” consists of about 20 of Currier & Ives’ most iconic prints from a private collection. Martin Kline’s “Romantic Nature” exhibit is the first major retrospective of his work.
The museum’s permanent collection includes paintings from the Hudson River School, American genre painting and sculpture, post-Civil War painting and sculpture, Impressionist works, 60 works by members of the Ash Can School and much more.
